Write-off (agency)
A write-off is delivered work an agency never invoices, whether because scope grew without a conversation, a thin brief caused rework, or the hours were never quoted in the first place. Write-offs are the gap between utilization and realization, and they cost the agency fully-burdened rate rather than nothing.
They are invisible on a timesheet, because the hours were worked and recorded. They only appear when delivered hours are compared against invoiced hours per account, which most agencies do once a year or never.
A write-off is a decision made at the moment of delivery and discovered at the end of the quarter. The practical fix is a monthly per-account comparison of hours delivered against hours sold, so the conversation with the client happens while the scope change is still recent.
